SATURDAY CONFORMATION SWEEPSTAKES
Sweepstakes Judge: Fred J. Fortman, Jr
I acquired my first IW in 1976 from a “backyard breeder.” Everything about its conformation was wrong. But everything about its heart and soul was right. I was hooked. My next IW was by an IWCA National Specialty winner and I thought I might want to show him. I was not very successful but in those days we had benched shows and they were wonderful. A novice could listen to and learn from some truly knowledgeable people. Miss F. Jeanette McGregor, Blanny Schreiner and Ellen Pishko were most kind, patient and wise. Others who generously shared their time and knowledge were Joel Samaha, Sam Ewing, Gretchen Bernardi, Judy Orsi, Connie and Jim Smalley. I must also mention Dr. Simon and Joel Mattson as significant influences and outstanding travel companions. It is my privilege to judge Sweeps!
