It was an honor and a pleasure to judge Sweepstakes.  Thank you for inviting me. The hospitality was wonderful throughout the weekend, the exhibitors friendly, and the excellent ring steward, Jamie Germain, made it easy to focus on the dogs rather than the procedure.  The puppies were surprisingly well behaved, a testament to their breeders, owners and handlers.  All had good bites, dark eyes and nice ears.  They were perhaps a bit straight in the fronts at this stage of growth and most had better rears. All had wonderful puppy temperaments, not one shied away from me, which is the beginning of great show careers for each of them. Some of them even seemed to like me.

This girl won on her wonderful movement and excellent conditioning.  She had nice long legs and moved with great determination, her commanding appearance already apparent.  Completely stripped down to her skivvies, she looked somewhat smaller than the others in her class, but she felt strong and substantial to the touch. To nit-pick, she could have been ribbed back a little further. It will be interesting to see her when her coat comes in and she matures.

This poor girl was recovering from an injury at the groomers and didn’t seem quite comfortable yet.  Lovely long legs which she needs to figure out how to use to her advantage.  Nice neck, ears and dark eyes. Her topline was a bit weak, possible because of the injury on her side.  Nice bend of stifle.

A lovely wheaten girl with beautiful curves and lots of bone.  She was very happy in the ring and broke her gait a couple times making movement somewhat difficult to judge, but happy puppies are irresistible, and her outline was both soft and strong. Her chest was nice and broad, and she had a nice layback of shoulder. Hocks were a bit high.

A beautiful, large, dark brindle bitch with a gorgeous head, dark eyes, lots of bone and wonderful, thick thighs.  Her side outline was curvaceous in all the right places. Nice long tail.  Excellent side movement, but she’s rather narrow coming and going.  She would likely have placed higher had she been a few pounds lighter.

Another nice girl with tons of potential.  Nice head, neck, ears and front assembly.  Tremendous bone and perfect feet. At this time she’s a bit unbalanced, her rear hasn’t kept up with her front.  She needs more second thigh and bend of stifle, which will likely come as she matures.
